Description

Introduction to English, the levels of the students will be observed, couple pf simple oral and written exercises will be conducted with student participation to introduce oneself to another. Alphabet, numbers, months and seasons will be practised in terms of meaning, writing and pronounciation; with melodic sounds, songs. Phonics will be the main goal from day 1.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduction and thanks session Asking how they are doing? How do they feel? Their expectations? Rules: No telephone, no interruption, no fear. Breathing exercise for concentration.

Exposure (15-25 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Write the english alphabet on the board. Ask them to try to read the letters. If they do read the letters, write some words and ask them to read them as well. Vocabulary should be linked more to financial issues like account, balance, credit, draw or difference, email or electronic, fund, guarentee etc.

Highlighting (25-35 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Explain the phonetics of english alphabet is different from how the letters are pronounced and words have different phonetics when some letters are added at the end like cut and cute; app or ape; sit or site.

Clarification (35-50 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Controlled Practice (50-65 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Use more videos to engage the students into speaking, listening and writing.

Free Practice (65-75 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Homework: Provide youtube links and ask the students to write the alphabet down 10 times with good order.
