Description

Teacher will have students read articles with focus of practice in looking for detail in context by reading. Students will review present simple yes/no questions with do/does and does/doesn't grammar.

Main Aims

  • To give students practice in reading for detail in the context of an article about working dogs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of present simple yes/no questions and to give students controlled speaking fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will show pictures of dogs in various scenarios and elicit from students what they see. Teacher will ask students if they know the difference between work dogs and pets? Teacher will CCQ to ensure that students know the difference between working dogs and pets and the vocabulary of owner/pet. Teacher will ask questions, i.e., "do you have a dog?" and elicit answers and encourage speaking fluency practice.

Pre-Reading (5 minutes) • To introduce new vocabulary and ensure knowledge of key vocabulary

Teacher will show students pictures and elicit from students the word or meaning being conveyed. Teacher will demonstrate through gestures and visual props. Teacher will demonstrate on WB to elicit vocabulary from students.

Detailed reading (5-10 minutes) • Students will read article and answer questions.

Teacher will give article to students to read and answer questions--Grp A with the Milo article and Grp B with the Bertie article. Teacher will review questions with students. WCF.

Speaking fluency practice (PW) (5 minutes) • To reinforce vocabulary and practice speaking fluency.

Students will pair up with student from opposite group to ask and answer the questions from exercise 2 HO.

Grammar review and constructing question sentences (5-10 minutes) • To review grammar previously learned and construct questions.

Teacher will give students HO to construct questions using # 3-6, 8, 9 and 10. Teacher will demonstrate one example on the WB. Once the sentences are complete. Teacher will review questions, calling students to WB. WCF.

Speaking fluency practice (PW) (5 minutes) • To practice speaking fluency through vocabulary, grammar and sentence construction.

Teacher will pair up students from opposite group. Students will ask and answer the questions from Exercise 1.

Choose the correct form exercise (5 minutes) • Practice in using the correct form

Teacher will give HO for students to circle correct verb form.
