Description

In this lesson students will learn a lot of adjectives related to feelings.They will practise them through a matching card exercise ,gapped filling sentences and a lot of pair work activities in a form of dialogues ,cards,drawing.

Main Aims

  • To provide new words connected to feelings,practise and review them through different speaking exercises.Students will learn the words in class and be able to use them in context.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help them learn new vocabulary without studying it at home ,to engage them and let them have fun while learning

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will hand out photocopies and ask them to write and draw how they feel today.Then ask them to place the emojis with the feeling in the correct column.Eg happy -positive,sad -negative.These are very easy words which all students know.Much lower than their level

Highlighting (9-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Tell students that they have to match the words to definitions.They are synonyms of the words previously mentioned at a higher level.Divide them into 2 groups.Scatter cards with the words and their definitions on the floor.They have to match as many as they can.Then they read aloud the definition of the word to understand what it is.Next,they match these words to their simpler version at the beginning of the lesson

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through complete sentences

Hand out photocopies with different gapped sentences.Students have to fill in the gaps with the previous words .Talk in pairs to work out the answers.Tell answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (1-2 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Show them cards with emojis(prepared at home) and tell them to identify what feeling they show.Revision of vocabulary previously taught.

Free Practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Divide them in pairs and ask them to perform a dialogue with any of the adgectives taught.Work together with their classmates.Give them 5-6 minutes time to work on the dialogue. Give each pair an emoji to draw how they are feeling . IQS Work in pairs.Write a dialogue.Do not reveal your feeling . The next pair is going to draw your feeling on the emoji.Check if you are right.
