Description

The main aim of the lesson is lexis about professions. The students practice new vocabulary chunks through guided discovery. The lesson stars with the elicitation of the vocabulary chunks. Ss will be shown VAs of famous people and their jobs. This is followed by the drilling and pronunciation of TL. The sub aim is to introduce students to the structure of articles with jobs. Ss will be given HO about a/an. Finally Ss will produce target language with a speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Play very famous Turkish singer's song and ask Ss what it is. When Ss gives the singer name, starts the PPT with the singer's photo and ask them the main questions of the lesson "What is his job?" and "What does he do?"

Vocabulary prediction (5-8 minutes) • To provide the context of the jobs for the target language through VAs

T shows some other pictures on professions including famous people and asking the question of "What is his job?" eliciting TL from the Ss before revealing the answer. The related pictures will be chosen according to the lexis given in SB. The stressed syllables of the vocabulary will be written in different colors helping students to drill the phonology for the further practices as well.

Vocabulary Practice (5-8 minutes) • To practice the vocabulary items that has been predicted

Ss listen to the pronunciation audio and drill the vocabulary one more time, model with gestures, ask where the stress falls and drill, correct their pronunciation. Give HOs taken from the first part of SB, showing the pictures of jobs and put ss in pairs to write down the right vocabulary that has been predicted before under each picture. And set the time. Show the answers. Ask if they have any question.

Grammar Introduction and Practice (8-10 minutes) • To introduce the usage of the articles a/an in the concept of the jobs

Give few example sentences among which are grammatically false. Ask them which ones are correct. Try to elicit the logic behind. Project the VAs, the scheme presenting the usage of articles depending on the vowels and consonants. Give HOs exercises, ask Ss to be pairs and fill in the blanks. Project the answers.

Productive Task (8-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice TL with a game

Put students in groups of 4 or 3. Tell them that they are going to draw cut up papers with different jobs written on them and play "What is my job?" game. Mimic one job before they start the activity. Monitoring unobtrusively.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide on productive stage and error correction of TL

Write down the mistakes and ask Ss to correct them in pairs.
