To provide clarification of the past simple tense in the context of life events
To provide pronunciation practice of the verbs in the past tense in the context of life events.
To provide product writing practice of the biography of someone famous in the context of life events.
Procedure (41-55 minutes)
Students will be given some jumbled words and they will be asked to put the words in the correct order. They will then be given some sentences and will be asked to match each sentence to the correct question.
Students will be given the text from the previous lesson " From prison to president". They will be asked to read it very quickly just to refresh their memory of what the text was about. They will then be asked to complete exercise 4 A and 4 B and check their answers in pairs. Whole class feedback.
Student will listen to the regular and irregular past simple forms and they will be asked to say out loud the verbs that end with the sound /id/. Students will then listen to the irregular verbs and practice saying them. Choral Drilling.
Students will read five sentences about Nelson Mandela's life and they will be asked to fill the gaps with the past simple of some verbs that will be given to them. They will then check their answers in pairs and then in the whiteboard.
Students will be shown a picture of Muslum Gurses and they will be asked to tell everyone what they know about him. They will then be split in two groups. Group A and Group B. Each person in group A will be given a question about Muslum's life and each person in group B will be given an answer of each question. The students will then be asked to find each other, so the right question with the right answer. At the end they will read the questions and the appropriate answers.
Students will be provided with a picture of Muslum and some key words to aid them with their writing task. Students will then write a biography about Muslum by using the verbs in the past simple tense.
If time allows it, students will read each other's writing and peer check them. The main mistakes will be highlighted and written on the board for the whole class to check.
