By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to speak and produce the target language in context of shops and shopping (Window shopping, Online shopping, need based-customer, discount customer, etc).
To provide the students with the opportunity to practice speaking for fluency to talk about their best type of shopping using the expressions introduces in the lesson.
Procedure (30-45 minutes)
1- I’ll show ss a drawing of my name and ask all of them to do the same then check in pairs as an ice breaker technique till they know the names of each others. 2-I will show Ss some photos from the shops and I will ask them: What is it? If I have some bills or bags it means that I was shopping yesterday. -I want to elicit from Ss word "shops" and "shopping" to set the lesson context.
-I will give Ss a HO with pictures and shops vocabulary to match the name of the shop with the picture. -Ss will work in pairs, they can check their answers and then we can check together as a whole class on the WB. -I will teach more vocabulary like: shop, customer, cashier, credit card, barcode and bags.Next activity I will ask the Ss to answer: Where do people normally buy these things: a dictionary, toothpaste, bread, aspirin, cakes, fruit, stamps, T-shirt, magazines, meat -Later on Ss in pairs, they will ask each other questions, each student will have different list of things to ask: Where can you buy aspirin? I can buy aspirin from a pharmacy. Where is the nearest pharmacy? It's in King Street.
- I will give Ss small HO with sentences to choose who's saying it: customer or seller -Ss will work in two groups or three small groups, later on they can check their answers. - After that activity I will ask Ss to create a dialogue using the phrases from the task, also they will decide in which shop it is happening and what they are selling.
-I will ask Ss not to look at their notes. The will work in pairs this time. -They will create a dialogue without looking at their notes. They should decide who is customer and seller; I will decide in which shops is happening by giving them a small HO to choose. -They will have 3-4 minutes to prepare and then some pairs will play their role in front of the class.
When Ss are doing their activity I will be monitoring them. I will collect a selection of their errors and then after the activity I will write a selection of the mistakes on the board and ask students to correct them.
