Description

In this lesson students will practise listening in order to learn and review pronunciation in the context of a journey. Students will first be introduced to the topic of the lesson looking at some pictures of some famous places in the world. Students and teachers will have a brief discussion about thses pictures. Then the teacher will show students four photos were taken by Conard who was in his trip and ask them to guess the place where each picture was taken. Then students will listen to a listening passage about two friends who are discussing Conard's on his web page in order to check their predictions. Students will listen to another passage about a couple of words in order to learn every word's pronunciation and mark every word's stress. Then T will give students another activity to do and play another recording for them inorder to check their answers.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss pictures of some famous places in the world. Ss and T have a brief discussion about those pictures.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows Ss four pictures of four different places. T tells Ss that the pictures were taken by a person in his trip around the world. T asks every S to guess where each picture was taken.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to a passage about a conversarion of two girls Amy and Joe who are discussing the photographs on Conrad's web page to check their predictions. T asks the Ss to listen again to the passage in order to number the pictures in the order the two girls mention them. T gives Ss a matching activity and ask them to work individually to match the photos with a list of given words. _ ICQs: are you going to work alone or with your partner? alone. Ss check their answers with their partners. T gives Ss answer key.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (16-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to another passage about a couple of words. Ss need to repeat every single word. Ss will listen again to the passage to mark the main stress of each word. T gives Ss a worksheet handout and ask the Ss to fill in a chart by listing the given words: ( the Amazon _ the Andes _ Antractica _ Asia _ the Atlantic _ the Danube _ Europe _ the Himalayas _ the indian ocian _ the Nile _ the Pacific _ the Pyrenees.), in the correct category column ( Continents _ Mountain ranges _ Oceans _ Rivers.) and according to size (biggest, longest _ smallest, shortest). Ss check their answers with their partners. Ss listen to another listening track to check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks every S to talk about a country or a city that he/ she recently visited and talk about some famous places that he/ she went to see there. In a whole class speaking activity every S will talk about his/ her experience. T shares her experience with Ss.
