Description

In this lesson,learners will use different adjectives to compare between two things.It will begin with a general sticked objects and learners have to find the adaquat adjective to describe each of them. It will finish by a free practice activity which is formulating different sentences and discussing them via role plays.

Main Aims

  • In the end learners will be able to compare differents things or objects by using even short or long adjectives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable learners to make a correct comparison between short,long and irregular adjectives when it concerns two things .So they mau use er+than/more+adj+than

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets the learners. teacher sticks 6 pictures of different things and asks learners ,then distributes some adjectives to the whole class and asks learners to stick adjectives they see are more suitable for each picture. learners talks in small groups then go to the board to stick the adjectives. learners checks the adjectives and debates .

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher asks students to focus their attention on the different adjectives,then checks if students know the name of each of the items and the correct pronunciation .

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher explains about comparing;sets a rule to distinguish between short adjectives and long ones. Teacher explains also irregular adjectives.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

To set a context ,teacher asks learners about theironline shopping habits.Asks questions :do you often buy things online?what do you buy online?is there anything you would never buy online?what was the last thing you bought online? Teacher checks the meaning of leather and faux leather then tell students to look at the two jackets and decide which one they would prefer? why? Students work in pairs to answer the questions.teacher checks.(1-2 p79) Teachers explains the rule of comparatives of adjectives.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher does the first example on the board with the class. learners then work individually to write the sentences to compare the items in the photos.(1p79) teacher circulates and monitors. learners exchange their answers. learners discuss and debates their different answers.
