Description

In this lesson the students will learn how to send an email complaining and apologizing for a service or product they've erceived. The lesson starts with my own exprience to set the context.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a email in the context of complaining and apologizing

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for apologizing and complaining in the context of writ
  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for apologizing and complainingogizing in the context of writing an email

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I wil start to set the context by explaining my own experience in this case and then will ask the Ss to share their experiences if they've got any.

Exposure (3-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

In this stage I will give them a handout on a model email and reply in apologizing and complaining and I will ask their attention on the model text format and structure (In this phase I will briefly explain the structure of such emails (action,background and details for problem). If i've got time I will ask them to work in pair/group to look at the text and discuss about its format.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will present some useful language and form of -ly adverb in this stage. After giving them the neccessary language, I will give them a handout to practice the language. They can work in pair to do the task.

Productive Task(s) (5-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this stage, I will ask them to think of one complaint that a customer/themselves might have about your company/another company. Then write one of the following:  a complaint from the customer, using three paragraphs and the structure in Exercise 3. Use at least one -ly adverb in each paragraph.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Before starting to do th task of this stage I will give them 1 minute to proofread their own writting. I will ask the students in this stage to exchange their written text and try to find the mistakes (if any) and correct it. I will give them a framework to consider during revising (Subject verb agreement, punctuation, -ly adverbs).
