Description

In this lesson, Ss practice functional language for inviting people.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for Making invitations and accept/decline invitations in the context of entertainment activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about making arrangements in the context of dating

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • The main aim is to generate interest on the lesson topic.

- Ss discuss the four questions for 5 minutes, to personalize the teaching topic for students.

Listening for the gist (2-3 minutes) • The main aim is to practice listening for gist and for the learners to be exposed to the target language.

- T tells students to look at the activity 2 - Then T plays the dialogue.

Checking stage (1-2 minutes) • The main aim is to check the understanding of the text.

- Briefly discuss the picture with the learners and make sure they understand the scene.

Listening for detail (4-5 minutes) • The main aim is for the learners to pick out specific target language in the recording.

- T plays the track again and have the learners fill-in the gaps in activity 3.

Checking Stage (1-2 minutes) • The main aim is to have students compare their answers and give feedback to each other.

- Ss compare their answers.

Presenting the language (4-5 minutes) • The main aim is have students to discover the use of the target language from a text.

- Discuss the function of the languages from listening for detail. - Focus the learners to the text in activity 4. Tell them to underline the phrase which describes an invitation. - Go over the form/pronunciation/usage.

Guided Productive Task I (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Explain the activity - Give the role cards to the ss. - Ss make invitations to each other and try to find a pair to do the activity together.

Guided Productive Task II (8-10 minutes) • The main aim is for learners to generate other entertainment activities and putting them into practice.

- Ss write an entertainment activity on a piece of a paper (preferably a funny one). - Ss take another paper and write a time phrase. - Students take turns, take a piece of paper from each box, improvise dialogue in front of the classroom.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- T gives feedback to the students for the common errors of the learners.
