In this lesson,students learn about the past simple in telling life stories.It will begin by a short presentation of Facebook creator Mark Zuckenberg and a short discussion about him,then it will be followed by severel activities to check pupils' understanding as a controlled practice till the free practice in which they will write about a famous Turkish actor.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson,learners will be able to use adequat and simple vocabulary when they write about a lifestyle.They will also be able to use the correct form of sentences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • learners will be provided by anew suitable vocabulary that will be helpful in expressing life stories.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets students. Asking several questions: How can people communicate today? We can also see our friends,family even if we are not in the same city or country.How? What is the first way of communicating nowdays?Social media Give me examples.Whatsapp-Twitter-Facebook-...... stick the photo of Mark Zuckenberg on the board. Asking the question:Who is this man?What did he do to be famous? Eliciting the learners answers by moderating questions.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher hands out a text about Mark Zuckerberg then ask learners to skim it and to underline the difficult words. Teacher explains some vocabulary words which seem to be new and difficult for learners. Learners debate and discuss.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher explains and illustrates some difficult words for the learners to be quickly engaged .

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher asks learners to read the text carefully and then to write "true" or "false" then to correct the wrong statements. learners will work individually,then when they finish they check their answers with their partners.So a pair work before correcting with the whole class. Learners write down the answers -Teacher asks learners to read the text again then to find synonyms and opposites of the given words. learners work in pairs to be more engaged and to share their ideas. Teacher checks the pairs answers before checking with the whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Teachers writes some hints on the board and asks learners to make a search on the internet. These will help learners to write about the Turkish famous actor "Cem Yilmaz". learners work in groups and try to fill in each hint. teacher checks then correct with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To sum up,learners after checking and discussing the different ideas,they will write a coherent paragraph by linking the different items. Teacher checks then learners debates and discuss what they have written with their classmates.
