Description

In this lesson ss learn about the different kind of therapies through guided discovery. After some lead in to understand what SS know about laughters, they will be pre-taught the vocabulary necessary for the audio. Then the SS will have listening for gist and following that listening for information. Following a brainstrorming, they will have an opportunity of a freer speaking activity where the SS can produce and discuss.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening and detailed listening practice of T/F questions through the use of a listening text about the types of therapy.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in a freer group speaking activity and discussion to produce thoughts about therapy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T turns on a meditative song and sits down in the middle of the class and imitates a person meditating. -T asks the SS what he was doing and if they had ever done something like that. - SS give their ideas about the meditation and try to find the word therapy. -T elicits the meaning of therapy. ECDW. -T asks them if they know any other kinds of therapies. - If SS can`t find any project some pictures to prompt them. -SS talk about their opinions about therapies.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Pre-teach the necessary vocabulary. -Elicit the vocabulary through pictures, sound prompts and some brainstorming. -Concept check the necesary meanings. -Drill whole class and drill individually. -Write down the words on the board and show the major stress.

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- SS will have a listening for gist. - T hands out the two questions and give the SS some time to read. - SS listen to the audio once and try to find the answers of ex.3. - Then SS check in pairs. - T monitors. - SS talk about what they think the answers are. - T tells the SS to unfold the papers and the answers are there.

While-Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks.

- T hands out the T/F questions in exercise 4A. - SS forms groups of three. - T mentions which questions they will answer. - T plays the recording and SS try to answer. - Check in groups. - T plays again to check. - SS listen and check their answers. - T monitors. - T tells the SS to look outside to find the answers on the wall and run back and tell the answers to their group members, -T plays a fast entertaining song to pace the SS. -SS check answers in groups.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T explains that they will have some discussion about 4C. - T forms two or three groups depending on the class attendency. - T projects the two questions in 4C. - SS read the questions and discuss the questions with their classmates. - T monitors. - T gives delayed feedback for good and bad language. -If there is time T hands out a list of therapies and tells SS to choose some they know and discuss what it is and when and where it is used.
