Description

In this lesson, students will read about a long and healthy life. I will raise the topic of healthy living. This is followed by a reading where students will work in pairs/groups on the text together and then share their ideas about the text. Finally, they will produce the target language which they read about.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about a long and healthy life through the context of a message from Life co-author, Helen Stephenson.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice, review and clarification of some lexis describing longhand healthy life in the context of long and healthy life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the session by setting a context about the healthy life. I will show some pictures to set the context and engage Ss' mind about the lesson's topic.

Pre-Teach lexis (3-5 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the reading

I will use different techniques including mimes, VAs and explanation to teach some lexis and elicit the lexis

Pre-Reading/Skimming (2-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will give the text to students to read the text in order to get a general idea about the topic. then I will divide the student by number. The same number will find their match to discuss the text and share their ideas and answer the questions.

While-Reading (3-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask the Ss to read the text again carefully. They should read it quite in detail to answer the proceeding questions. after reading the text, I will ask them to work in pair and answer the questions.

Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

I will explain that they're going t listen to the audio. Two native express their idea about a healthy life and their life expectancy rate. They will listen to it and then in pair/group will work to find the answers.

Post-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage which is the last and most important stage of this procedure, I will raise the question of how to live healthily? How to live longer? and also what are their life expectancy rate?
