Description

in this lesson, the teacher and the student get to know each other after that practice a language through listening activity

Materials

Abc filling in the gap, white board and textbook

Main Aims

  • To provide review of present simple, the present continuous, the past simple, the "goingto" future, the modal verb "can" and the full verb "have". It's a general revision of the verb forms and their meanings to assess the new student's strengths and weaknesses in the context of Getting to know you

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Tenses and questions in the context of Getting to know you

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the lesson break the ice and set up a rapport

the teacher will draw a circle with 4 gestures and ask the student to guess then form a question for the information they guessed.

Listening task (2-3 minutes) • Practice listening for specific information and to introduce the target language via listening

-I will present a picture of a young guy to introduce the listening - I will ask the student to read the missing words before playing the audio -I will ask the student to fill in the gap while listening to the recording

Highlighting the Target language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight the target language by using a guiding task" the fill in gap activity"

- I will ask the student to look at the answers - I will ask the student about each answer some questions, like what is the tense and what is the form - I will highlight the form and the tense and check their meanings with the student

Controlled Practice (8-15 minutes) • to revise and asses the student's strengths and weaknesses

- Introduce the picture of Carly and encourage the student to complete the questions so that she will use them to ask her, the answer key will be stuck on the wall - After finishing the student will listen to the audio and write the answers to the questions and share them with the teacher. The teacher will drill the intonation of the questions by asking the student the question about herself and let her ask the teacher as if she is Carly. - then complete the third activity and form questions, the teacher will ask the student to ask her the questions to check if she gets the correct answer.

Language practice (10-15 minutes) • To practice the language in the form of speaking and writing activities

- The teacher will work with the student to form the questions together - the teacher and the student will exchange the questions - following that the teacher will ask the student the next set of questions and listen to her answers - the teacher will ask the student to write a paragraph about herself using the first task as a prompt to help
