Description

In this lesson, Ss will read two travel blogs by two different writers and then do some exercises to learn the features of a good blog. Finally, they will write a travel blog themselves.

Main Aims

  • To give the sudents the oppurtunity to write a blog in the context of travel.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of past simple and comparatives in the context of travel.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To give the oppurtunity to Ss to discuss their blog reading experiences.

1. Show them the logos of three famous travel apps a) TripAdvisor 2) Foursquare 3) Swarm 2. Ask Ss if they have used these apps before. Why? Was it good or bad? Why? 3. Ask if any of the Ss has ever left a comment on these apps. What did they write? 4. Give time to Ss to discuss this in groups.

Pre-reading Task (5-7 minutes) • To scan and skim the reading

1. Show four pictures to check if they know the meanings (HO 2). a) Seagull b) seasick c) Hippy Movement d) Restless nights 2. Scanning- give them the HO 3 and ask them to answer the following questions briefly and quickly. a) Who is the writer of the first and the second texts? b) Where did Hannah travel to? Where did Florance travel to? c) When did they travel? d) Who went to Piazza San Marco? e) Who visited the Golden Gate Bridge? f) Who visited the Bridge of Sighs? 3. Skimming- Tell the Ss they have only 2 minutes to say which text they think is better? Why?

Reading Task (8-10 minutes) • To read two sample travel blogs (one good, one bad) to learn the difference and get prepared for the next writing task.

1. Intensive Reading- Give Ss 5 minutes and ask them to answer part 2 questions. 2. Ask the Ss to answer the questions in 3a. 3. Give the Ss HO 4 and explain the building blocks of a good travel blog.

Writing Task (15-20 minutes) • To practice writing a blog page in the context of travel.

1. Explain question 4a to the Ss. 2. Give Ss two minutes and ask them to brainstorm on their travel blog. They can think about the following questions. a) Where did they go? b) when did they go? c) With whom did they go? d) What did they do? e) what activities did they do? 3. Give HO5 to the Ss to write their text on it. 4. Ss will swap their travel blogs with a partner and read it and say if it is a good text.
