Description

In this lesson, students will read a text about echoes and do activities of the text

Materials

Abc The text, headings, text maps, vocabulary activity

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about seeing without eyes in the context of sound

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of sound

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks if it is possible to "see without eyes" and how. Students discuss this in pairs and teacher gets their ideas

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students do the first activity on page 154 to get prepared for the text vocabulary. They compare their answers and then teacher elicits the correct answers. Next, teacher elicits the parts of speech of these words and drills their pronunciation and stress.

Pre-Reading #2 (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students discuss the question in "before you read" part (p:154) in pairs and teacher gets their ideas

While-Reading #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist tasks

Students read the headings in global reading part (p:154) and then read the text quickly in 2-3 minutes to match these headings to the paragraphs.They compare their matching. After that, teacher gets their matching and writes them on the board.

While-Reading #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging scan reading task

Students read the text maps in the book (page: 156) and then read the text in 5-6 minutes to complete these maps. They complete in pairs, teacher gets their answers and writes them on the board.

Post-Reading (7-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students are asked to search for 3 technologies inspired from animals on the internet in groups of 3-4. They need to do this in 4-5 minutes. Later, teacher pairs each member of a group with another gorup's member so that they will share and explain what they have found.
