Description

In this lesson I will be helping my students to increase their vocabulary and use this to help them form a picture of someones appearance. We will be using a variety of descriptive words to help describe different peoples features

Main Aims

  • In this lesson I will be teaching students a range of new vocabulary to help them describe someones features in more details
  • To provide practice, review and clarification of Descriptive words. Adjectives. in the context of People and their features.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Conversations and describing in the context of People and their features.

Procedure

Introduction to describing people... (3-5 minutes) • Introduce class to the context of the lesson

As an introduction to the lesson I will introduce myself and describe my appearance to the class. e.g. I have dark brown eyes and brown hair. I also have short stubble on my face. I will ask the students to describe a feature of themselves and tell the rest of the class.

Describing people... (10-15 minutes) • To get students to think about descriptive words for peoples appearances.

I will place a number of images on the board and I will ask the class to tell me something about the persons facial features. I am hoping to elicit some good descriptive adjectives to help them describe the person seen. For all new words I will run through the below to make sure they understand any new adjectives they may have not come across. NEW VOCABULARY - BALD, HAIRY, CURLY/WAVY, WRINKLY E - Elicit C - Check D - Drill W - Write on board S - Stress/Pronunciation

Describing adjectives for people TASK 1 (10-15 minutes) • To reinforce new vocabulary and to develop understanding and context.

I will ask the class to work in pairs and complete a task describing people on the sheet.

Describing People TASK 2 (10-15 minutes) • Students to gain deeper understanding of describing people with adjectives.

TASK 2 Guess who. Check students understanding of partners descriptive words and to use this to draw a picture of the person being described without seeing the picture. I will write any new words on the board and go through the below with them. E,C,D,W,S Eliciting will not be applicable to the words they provide.

RECAP (5 minutes) • To refresh students memory of lesson

I will get them to describe a random member of the class using descriptive words and we will have to guess who they are talking about.
