In this lesson SS consolidate vocabulary based on a text they read before and learn new topic-related vocabulary .

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of festival words in the context of parades and celebrations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Thanksgiving

Procedure

Lead in (5-6 minutes) • Revise pre-taught vocabulary

Ask Ss to tell their partners what they remember about Tar Baal Festivals. FB: Ask them what they talked about Give definitons and elicit the words from the Ss. .

Controlled practice of vocaulary (5-6 minutes) • To practice vocabulary through a multiple choice activity.

Ask students to work individually, read the sentences and choose the correct option. Ask them to work in pairs and compare their answers. FB: Check and discuss the answers with the whole class.

Vocabulary (10 minutes) • To provide Ss with a set of new topic-related words

Elicit the meaning of new words. Ask CCQs about them.

Controlled practice of vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To teach new topic-related words

-Ask the students to read the text and put the verbs in the blanks to test what they already know. - Ask them to compare their answers with their partners and discuss the meaning of the words that they don't know. -Answer the questions as a whole class.

Listening (7-8 minutes) • To provide a listening practice through a Thanksgiving video

-Ask questions to Ss to see what they know about Thanksgiving. -Play the video and and ask them to answer the questions individually. -Ask them to compare their answers with their partners. -Answer the questions as a whole class.

Mathcing Activity (3-4 minutes) • To provide new vocabulary about special days.

-Ask the students to match the numbers to the statements. -Check it as a whole class

B PLAN • Provide a free writing activity

-Hand Ss A4 papers and ask them to make a comparison between Thanksgiving and a special event in Turkey. -Give them 20 minutes. -Collect the papers to give feedback afterwards.
