Reading and Speaking 'Kids then and now'

Description

In this lesson, ss will deal with a reading text about the kids in the past compared to the kids in the present. Ss will give their opinions using the modal verbs that they had to deal with in the recent lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Kids then and now in the context of Human life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation and debate in the context of Human life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T to project a video to the ss about the life between the past and now. -T to elicit from ss what they will see on the video -T to ask ss about life in the past and in the present with the ss

Pre-teach vocab • to facilitate ss understanding of the lesson

T will teach the following vocabulary: -A toy car -A thrift -A van -A doll -A wardrobe -A serious row -A hair mousse -A household mousse -Cuddly -Gadgets

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T to ask ss to answer the questions parin ex1 and imagine their bedrooms when they were 10 years old. -WC discussion

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T to ask ss to work on the ex2 and answer the questions. -WC FB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-T to ask ss to read the newspaper article alone and answer the questions in the ex3. -WC FB -T to ask ss to read the end of the article and answer the questions in ex6. -WC FB

Post-Reading/Listening (12-18 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T to ask students to work in groups and discuss the questions in the last ex 'What do you think' - T to ask ss the following questions: 1- What do you like about the past life? 2- Do you miss anything you used to do in the past? 3- was life better in the past? 4- If you had the ability to travel using a time machine, which time would you travel to? and why?
