Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn how to write a review on their favorite restaurant or cafe, also they will learn the adverbs of degree so they can make adjectives weak or strong to use it in the review. Ss will be exposed to the text/content through a reading for specific info activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide guided stages for Ss on how to write a review on a restaurant or a cafe

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about reviews on different restaurants

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • to generate students' interest in the topic of the lesson.

teacher greets Ss and asks how are they doing? and asks the following questions and waits for their answers: -how often do you go out with friends? -where can you go when you are out with friends?

set context (3-5 minutes) • to generate students' interest in the topic.

-T asks Ss the following questions to elicit the topic of restaurants reviews from them : -if there are different places to go to, how do you choose where to go? -if there is a new restaurant or cafe, how can you decide if it is good or bad if you haven't visited it before? -how can you know people's opinions about it?

reading for specific info (5-7 minutes) • to expose Ss to the topic.

-T gives Ss a handout with 4 reviews on different restaurants and elicits some info about the form of it before setting the task of reading for specific info. Ss work in pairs. set the task-1 min do the task - 3mins feedback - 1 min

genre analysis (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-T writes 3 sentences on the board using the same adjective but different adverbs and tries to elicit the right arrangement for the three sentences from weak to strong. -T gives Ss a handout with different adverbs which they need to rearrange on a scale from weak to strong as a group. -set the task -1 min -do the task -2mins -feedback using a handout.

motivate learners (5-7 minutes) • orient Ls to the type of text.

-T shows Ss 4 pictures of very known restaurants in the city and asks them to work as a group to rearrange these restaurants from the worst to the best discussing the 6 points reviews focus on. set the task -1 min do the task -4 mins feedback -1 min

writing task (12-15 minutes) • to enable Ss to practice writing skills.

-T sets Ss into three pairs and gives each pair a letter (A-B-C) -T sets every pair apart and asks each pair to write a review on the same restaurant. set the task -1min do the task -5 mins -then each S exchange his/her review with his/her partner to read each other's reviews and to correct their partner's mistakes.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T praises the great work of Ss and corrects any mistakes notices while monitoring.
