Description

In this lesson, the SS will have practiced the vocabulary related to representing their own opinions and ideas about what is legal and illegal in the context of "which phrase relate more to rights and freedom?" Also, they should be able to practice speaking in pairs and in groups, as well.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, the SS will have practiced the meaning, pronunciation, and form of the new words in the context of "Presenting Your Opinion"

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the ss should have practiced speaking for fluency in the context of "rights and freedom"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Display a video about "Genetic Testing" and ask the Ss whether choosing your baby's sex before it's born should be made legal or not and why. Discuss in pairs.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation.

* Allow the ss to check the meaning of the used words and phrases before exposing the ss to the topic. *Create interest by focusing ss' attention on the photos. *Discuss briefly what issues they deal with. *Check the meaning of strict law and rights. *Work through the first example to demonstrate before putting the class into groups to categorize the phrases that describe them. )(Using numbers).

Highlighting and clarification (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language and clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation.

elicit the meaning of the following words: hunting, to smack, to be terminally ill, capital punishment,& military service by displaying pictures, synonyms and antonyms, explaining further details or giving further examples. - Highlight the meaning, pronunciation, form, and phonological features of the given phrases, words, or sentences. -Concept check the meaning of any word you may feel the ss are still not sure about it. -Drill the target language. -write or display the meaning, form and pronunciation on the board.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-In groups of 3, Ss should only agree on 3 topics to discuss later . - Refer Ss to the "Useful Language Section 1 ". - Think about the ss opinion and how to express them. (Demonstrate first). - Each SS should give an opinion about the 3 topics.

Free Practice (8-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Distribute the "Language Analysis" Section B. and let the ss write down their favourite topic on a small paper. Ask the ss to start the "Quiz-Quiz" Trade in which the SS move around the class and stop next to the closest partner to exchange asking each other about their opinions on their fvourite topic using their "Useful language card" if they need help.They they swap cards. - Ss raise their hand to show that they're free to receive another partners and repeat the process. - Monitor the class during the practice, take notes, and give a final feedback before assessing the ss mistakes that have occurred while on the activity.
