Reading and Vocabulary Practice
To improve reading skills for a better understanding.
To learn new vocabulary and identify synonyms in the context.
Procedure (3-5 minutes)
I will ask how they are and what they have done lately. Probably, at least someone will have worked and I will ask this question: "What is the most hard-working animal on our planet?" And I will direct them to say "Ants". Then we will talk about the vocabulary related to the upcoming article.
I will ask them to find out if the vocabulary that the sts have used are actually in the article.
In this stage, the first exercise is finding synonyms in the article. First, I will explain what synonyms is. I will ask them to work in groups and after getting responses from them, I will ask "Why and How" questions such as "How did you reach that conclusion? Why is it like that?" In addition, depending on the number of the students in the class, group sizes may vary. Then I am going to ask the sts answer the questions on the fourth exercise in groups.
This will be another pw and they are going to try to answer the questions in the exercise.
If needed, I plan to take notes on the mistakes that the sts make and at the end of the class, we will review them shortly.
