Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Set the context. Link the previous contex with internet dating. Tell a short anectode of yours about internet dating. Divide the class into groups of three. Give them task 1 as lead-in. Set the time limit for 2 mins. Monitor and give feedback if necessary. Elicit some ideas from the groups. Nominate one student from each group.

Pre-Listening (6-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

Before beginning the second task, check students understand profile, share, special, ideal and match. Give a context for each of them and provide CCqs. Don't forget to focus on form. Then, set the task. Tell the students to read Jackie's profile on the website and mark the sentences True or False. After they finish, tell to check their answer with their partners. As a feedback, ask for reasons for the false ones.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Tell the Ss look at the photos A and B. Ask T: Where are they? Why are there different men in pictures? Which one does she like more? For gist, tell the Ss that they are going to watch both videos, They should focus on the questions. Tell them not to try to understand the whole video. After they tell them to check their answers with their pairs. Then elicit answers.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Explain that Jackie has two dates with two different men. Focus students on photo A. Tell the Ss to watch the videos 3a and b and put the things in the order they hear them. First they check with their pairs, then with the class Give feedback if necessary.

While-listening #3 • To provide students with more challenging listening task

Focus on the lists in 3a and 3b. Play the first video. Students watch and identify which things Jackie has in common with Damon. Elicit the answers first with pairs. Then with the whole class. Play the second video. Follow the same procedure again. As a last question, ask T: Who does Jackie want to see again? Why?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

To engage the Ss, write Come and Find Me on the board. Then, set the task. Hand out post-its. Tell them to write short notes describing themselves and their ideal partners. Remind them not to write any names. Collect the post-its. Stick them randomly. Tell the Ss to stand up and look for their ideal matches. They read the papers aloud and find their dates for the day.
