Description

In this lesson, students will have practiced reading in the context of going out, they will learn how to use some verbs to express the action they are doing, also they will practice speaking activities.

Materials

Abc Handouts.
Abc Projector.
Abc whiteboard.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will have practiced reading for gist and specific information in the context of going out

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of going out with their friends.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show SS some pictures for some Egyptian women going out together. -Elicit the context from SS :what are these women doing and where? Ask the students to discuss these 3 questions:(display the 3 questions on the projector): -Where do you usually go out? -Do you like going out with your friends? -Do you like to go shopping? -Do women go out together in Egypt ? Where do they go?

Pre-Reading (Pre-teaching vocabulary) (10-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible and to stimulate interest in the topic. and to provide students with an understanding of some words that might be problematic.

1-show SS pictures of the problematic words on the projector and elicit the meaning. 2-drill the words and highlight the stress then write on the board. 3-give SS slips of papers that have the verbs "get,have and go" and some words to match with. 4-Ask SS to work in pairs and match the words we should use with go , get or have. 5-monitor the students. 6-give SS the model answer to check their answers. (Ho 1)

While-Reading1 (8-10 minutes) • To skim for the main idea.and to scan for specific information.

1-Ask the students to read the text and look at the pictures in one minute to confirm their ideas in the pre-reading stage.and answer Ex 2b to guess which country are they in. -check the answers orally. 2-Ask them to answer the scanning task,2c make them look at the question and ask what they are looking for to answer and set a time limit of 2 mins. 3-Students check their answers in pairs. 4-give them HO 2. to check their answers.

While-Reading/2 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with the chance to read for detail.

1-chest the wh- questions. in Ex 2-d 2-Give the instructions to SS, tell them that they need to read more carefully to find the answers. 3-Set a time limit of 5 minutes. 5-Monitor and help if needed. 6-Make them check in pairs 7-Give them the model answers. (HO3)

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond orally to the text.

1-Ask the students if they were surprised by anything in the text. 2-Ask them to discuss the questions in ex 2e 3-give ss instructions how to run the discussion. 4-give the ss extra questions to discuss. (HO4)
