Description

In this lesson, students revise the use of the Passive Voice through a writing activity and learn to describe a process or a scientific experieriment. The lesson starts with a lead- in activity in which students work in pairs and talk about the photographs shown on the smart board. This is followed by clarifacation and explanation of the Passive Voice which has already been studied earlier. Following several concept check questions, students do some controlled exercises. Finally, students work individually and later check their partner's paragraphs working in pairs.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are shown four different pictures and asked to talk about these pictures in pairs answering the questions: *Do you know the people in pictures A and B? Do you remember their inventions or achivements? Would you like to be a scieentist or an astronaut? Why/ Why not? * Which product do you see in the pictures C and D? Why and how do we use them in today's world?

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students are reminded of the use of passive voice through concept check questions and example sentenes which were studied in the text yesterday. The meaning and the form is emphasized one more time through personalization if necessary. The students are given a set of controlled exercises. Completing the first exercise, they are asked to go online find information about two examples of inventions or products we use today. They are asked to work in pairs share the information they found. Next, they are asked to do the second activity and check their answers in pairs.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students are given an example paragraph in which they learn the process of tea- making through the use of the passive voice. Next, they are asked to write a smiliar process paragraph using the recipe given for them and certain linking words.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After finishing writing their paragraphs, students are asked to work in pairs and check their partner's paragraph. The teacher also monitors while students are checking their friends' answers and gives feedbacks. Finally, he emphasizes problematic parts on the board.
