Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss a photo of White House and asks Ss questions about it using the TL. "How many kitchens are there?" "Is there a tennis court? " "Are there any public bathrooms?"

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T gives Ss a written text about the White House and asks them to underline 'there is/there are...' -T also asks Ss to focus on the nouns after There is.../There are... and to decide which one is followed by a singular noun, which one is followed by plural noun.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T gives Ss a handout in which Ss will have a chance to analyze the TL in terms of meaning and form and reflects the handout on the board using OHP. -T asks them to read the example sentences on it. -Then T asks Ss when we use 'There is...' and 'There are...' and elicits the answers. -Next T asks Ss to underline the correct word given in the meaning part and elicits the answers. -T then asks Ss to complete the form part and check their answers in pairs. -T elicits the answers as W/C.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T gives Ss a handout and asks them to complete Ex. 1. Ss are supposed to make affirmative and negative sentences with the given information. - T asks Ss to check their sentences in pairs and nominates Ss to elicit the answers as W/C.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T asks Ss to complete Ex. 2. -Ss are supposed to make Yes/No questions using the words in the table. -T then asks Ss to ask and answer their questions in pairs. -T monitors Ss and helps them when necessary. -Next T asks Ss to complete Ex.3. -Ss are supposed to make questions using 'How many...' with the given information. -Then T asks Ss to ask and answer the questions in pairs. (Answers depend. Therefore, this activity can also be considered as Semi-Controlled practice.) -T monitors Ss and helps them when necessary.

If Time Allows: Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T draws a map of her flat on the board and talks about her home using the TL. "This is my home. There are 4 rooms in my flat. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a kitchen. There is a living room. There is a hall here but there isn't a balcony." -Then T asks Ss to draw a map of their flats/ houses in Ex.4. -Next T asks them to talk about their homes using the TL in pairs. -T nominates Ss to present their homes.
