Listening 'attitude' adverbs

Description

In this lesson, students will learn new 'attitude' adverbs and will be able better to understand when they hear them, and also, will learn how successfully use them in the sentences.

Abc Inside Out Intermediate Students Book

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Rolling Stones gig in the context of 'attitude' adverbs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of new vocabulary in the context of 'attitude' adverbs.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll start with a picks of Rolling Stone, KISS and other well known bands. I'll ask what bands do Ss like. I'll also will ask them if, in their opinion, age is matter for rock/pop band.

Pre-Listening, Vocabulary (15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'll put Ss in to groups and give them cards with new words. Ss will put them into 2 category, known and unknown. After that, I'll elicit the ones they don't know with CCQs and example sentences. Finish with pronunciation and drill.

While Listening #1 (15 minutes) • To provide students with specific information reading/listening tasks

I'll give to Ss exr 2 and 3 at the same time and give instructions about what they need to do while listening to the story. Once finish, I'll put them in pairs to check the answers and then ask their opinion of this story.

Listening task #2 (5 minutes) • Students will practice pronunciation of the new words they just learned

I'll give Ss exr 1 pg 97 and have them listen exercise and put words into columns.

Task (5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills.

If any time left: I'll put everyone in the circle and have a discussion about what is better young bands or old bands, by using new 'attitude' adverbs.
