To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of family, future plans
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
Use realia to get the SS attention. Elicit the family members from the SS. Ask "Who do you think is this lady? Can it be my mum? Does she look like me? How old is she?, etc.
Draw a table on the board and ask SS to do the same. SS can use the last page of the HO. Demonstrate the first conversation. Ask SS to listen to the next conversations and complete the table. SS check their answers with their partners. T asks SS to share their answers with the whole class. If there is a wrong answer, T refers to the script of the listening activity and read the relevant part one more time and elicit the correct answer from that S.
Form SS into pairs. Ask SS to read the sentences and their meanings. Then, teacher asks SS to match the future form related words to the correct sentences. (intention, arrangement, prediction, promise, offer) T monitors during group work. T elicits the answers from the class. T focuses on MFP by going over the answers in 2c.
SS complete the grammar activity individually. T sets the time to 3 minutes. When time is up, SS peer check with a partner. T monitors the activity. Project answers for visual feedback.
T demonstrates the activity with a S. T sets the time to 5 minutes. T asks ICQs to check understanding. - Are you working alone? No - Can you move around in the classroom? Yes - Do you need a pen? Yes - How many minutes do you have? 5 T monitors the SS during mingling activity and corrects errors when needed.
