Description

In this lesson different variations of polite requests and some of the uses of "will" is going to be discussed.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making requests in the context of social life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of "will"used for offers and on-the-spot decisions in the context of small problems
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of making requests in social life

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To attract students attention and make them interested in the lesson

The teacher will start talking about something when s/he drops her/his marker and says "I will take it." If possible other situations suitable for using "will" with this meaning will be created.

Presenting the first Grammar Point (5-8 minutes) • Introducing the Use of "will" for on-the-spot" decisions

Using the sentences he tries to elicit the meaning, form and pronunciation of "will".By using finger-visualization and ccqs the teacher will guide the students to understand the meaning of the lesson.S/he will set up a drilling activity and after that using different situations other sentences in a controlled situation will be produced.

Practicing more (9-12 minutes) • To help the learners better learn the use of "will"

After describing the activity the teacher will distribute HO1.The students will work in pairs and write 2 sentences for each situation and then compare their answers with a neighboring group.

Listening activity for "will" (6-8 minutes) • Providing the learners the chance to listen to what they learned in a daily situation

The teacher tells the students to focus on the two pictures on HO2 and guess the relationship between the speakers and the problem and on-the-spot decision.Then ther listening will be played and students will check their answers.

Introducing the topic of requests (8-12 minutes) • Giving the students a complete clarification on polite requests

The teacher will introduce the topic using a polite request on the board. CCQs will follow to clarify the meaning.The teacher will give out the pictures and will tell the students to work in pairs and guess what the requests of different people in the pictures are.The teacher plays the first track and asks the students to find the people then the second track is played and the teacher asks the students to see if the answer to request is positive or negative.

practice (4-8 minutes) • Better practicing requests

Having listened to the listening the teacher will put different possible grammar structures for polite requests on board and will tell the students to rewrite the dialogue on HO4 and act them out.
