Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Is talent or hard work? in the context of experiment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of evidence, claim, oblige, scribble in the context of experiment

Procedure

Engagment (5-10 minutes) • To construct opportunity to share their personal experience

1. Teacher narrates a personal story, meanwhile she shows relevant pictures to the story to make students involved emotionally and visually 2. Teacher asks a couple of questions from students. a) What artistic talent do you have? b) Are you interested in drawing? c) Who is a good drawer/painter among your friends or family 2. Teacher makes context in order to make a relevance between what students say and blocking words to pre teach them (based on MECDIBLE) 3. Teacher provides correction on students' mispronunciation

Study (pre reading) (5-10 minutes) • To activate students' background knowledge according to the topic

1. Teacher introduces the topic (Is it talent or hard work?) 2. Teacher ellaborates on the definiton of topic with students 3. Teacher asks students to discuss it in pairs 4. students report their ideas voluntarily

Study (while reading) (10-12 minutes) • To skim the text for the gist

1. Teacher asks students to read the question below the reading part for themselves 2. Teacher asks student to skim the text and choose the correct item (if students don't know what skimming is, Teacher will explain) 3.students announce their chosen items 4. Teacher gives feedback .

Study (while reading) (5-10 minutes) • To scan for specific information

1. Teacher asks students to take a look at the scanning questions 2. Teacher asks students to answer the questions 3. Students check their answers in pairs 4. Students report their answers to class and teacher provides feedback on them

Study (post reading) (10-15 minutes) • To activate students' knowledge about reading passage in a challenging discussion

1. Teacher pre teaches some agree and disagree statements 2. Teacher pose the question of reading 3. Teacher divides the class into 2 parties (The talent party) and (Handwork party) 4. Each party should defend their idea and persuade the opposite party using agree and disagree statement 5. Teacher provides feedback on language
