To provide fluency speaking practice in making a survey and presenting their findings in the context of holiday destinations
To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about holidays in the context of a TV programme about holidays
Procedure (39-45 minutes)
T asks Ss "Where do you go on holiday? What do you like to do on holiday?" After Ss discuss in pairs, T elicits a few answers from Ss.
T tells Ss they are going to hear a TV programme about holidays and asks them to answer the questions on the board in pairs. T tells they can make notes while listening and plays the audio twice and asks if they want to hear it again. After Ss answer the questions, they listen once more to check together. WC feedback on answers.
T tells Ss they are going to do the survey to plan a class trip. "You are going to make an interview with other Ss about their holidays and decide where you want to go on a trip together. T gives out two sets of questions for four groups as well as a handout for holiday lexis. T wants them to look at their section and ask about anything they do not understand.
Ss are divided into 4 groups as pineapples, cherries, cheese and honey. (The groups are on their handouts) Ss can make interviews in their group and with people other than their groups. They need to interview at least 4 different people. They should write down and take notes about the answers. Then they will put the most popular and most interesting answers in a chart. T projects some example charts on the board.
First, they look at each other's posters, make any corrections if necessary and then they put up their poster on the board and present their findings to the class and decide where they want to go. The other Ss can ask them questions. During this peer feedback, T makes any corrections necessary.
