Description

In this lesson, students will focus on grammar and reading about cities. The grammar point is 'comparatives'. There is reading at the end if there is time.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of comperatives in the context of cities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about two different hotels in the context of cities (if there is time)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss are asked questions about the differences between İzmir and İstanbul as they read it a text about it in the first lesson. Teacher may make sentences with comparatives. If ss can understand them, warm up can be longer.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Some sentences are written on the w/b. Ss see them and teacher gives the grammar rules by comparing two cities.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Some questions are asked about two cities. Ss answer them and some are written on the w/b.

Controlled Practice (9-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Pic 1 and task 1-2 are given. They see the sentences. FB is given. Some grammar rules might be explained (especially for longer adjectives).

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

pic 2 and task 3 are given. This time ss completes the sentences. FB is given. If there is a problem about an adjective or a grammar point, teacher explains them.

Free Practice (if there is time) (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

pic 3 and task 4 are given. This time ss make sentences. They pick the adjectives from the box. They also need to read a text about two hotels. They need to compare them.
