Description

In this lesson Ss practice their reading ( receptive skills and productive skills) by skimming and scanning. Ss will also practice vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about 20th Century in the context of Technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of words "Twentieth Century,Teenager,Inventions" in the context of Technology ,Inventions

Procedure

Stage 1 (Warmer - Lead in) (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context

- Greet Ss - Write on the whiteboard "Thomas Edison,Alexander Graham,Alexander Fleming" and ask Ss what they know about them and their inventions. - Ask Ss which invention they like the most

Stage 2 ( Pre-Reading) (3-4 minutes) • To prepare Ss to the text so that it is understandable

Teach Ss "influential,invention,affordable"

Stage 3 (While -Reading ) (9-10 minutes) • To provide gist reading

-Ss will have an handout of true and false questions which they will answer alone -Ss will be divided into pairs and check each others answers - Feedback

Stage 4 ( While -Reading 2) (4-5 minutes) • To provide Ss more with more gist reading

- Ss will have an handout which they will have to rearrange the paragraph into its correct sequence by working alone. - Ss will be divided into pairs , Ss will check their answers with each other and compare their answers with the answer key that has been provided to them.

Stage 5 ( Post - Reading ) (9-10 minutes) • To provide a task to expand their understanding of the text and furthering their reading skills

- Ss will read the questions alone that has been provided in the book (ex.3A) pg 57 - Ss will be asked to than read the text alone that has been provided in the book on pg 56 - Ss will answer the question, will be divided in pairs and check each others answers - Ss will compare their answers with the answer key

Stage 6 ( Discussion) (9-10 minutes) • To provide task for Ss to expand their vocabulary by giving a speaking task

- Will write on the board "Medicine,Education,Home and Travel" - Will aks the Ss to think of inventions under each category - Ss will share their ideas in groups and agree on the most important one - In feedback a nominated one from the group will share their ideas to the class - Teacher will monitor
