Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context, engage students, and activate their schemata

- Learners are grouped in groups of 3 and given pictures of 2 places (each group is given a different set of pictures) - T shows on the smartboard the following Q *Do you think life in these places is easy? difficult? enjoyable? Why?* - Groups are asked to nominate 1 S to be the secretary - The secretaries are asked to write down their group's answer - T gets WCFB

Pre-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T writes on the board "the hottest", "the coldest", "the driest", "the wettest", "the healthiest", and "the most remote" - Learners are given 2 short texts about the photos they have - Learners are asked to skim the text alone in 1 minute and decide which superlatives match their texts - Learners compare check their answers with their group members - T gets WCFB

While-Reading #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging specific information reading tasks

- Learners are handed HO1 and asked to read and answer only the questions about their texts - Learners are asked to compare with their group members - Learners are regrouped and asked to ask questions in order to write down the answers the remaining questions about the rest of the 6 places

Post-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T shows on the smartboard 2 questions "Which place do you think is the nicest/the most difficult place to live? Why?" and "What is the hottest/the coldest place you have ever been to?" - Learners are asked to discuss in their groups - T gets WCFB

Vocabulary (13-17 minutes) • To provide students with clarification of vocabulary related to the topic of geographical features in the context of Extreme Places to Live

- Learners are given 5 minutes and are asked to do exercise 5/73 from their book - Learners are asked to check with their group members - T monitors - T shows the answers on the smartboard - T shows Ss a photo of Marmaris on the smartboard and describes it to the class "My favorite city in Turkey is Marmaris. It is in the middle of two mountains on the Mediterranean coast. I like it because there are many beaches and islands with soft sand. etc." - Learners are asked to scan a QRcode which will take them to a previously created Padlet by T - Learners are given 5 minutes asked to write sentences on the Padlet describing their favorite place using minimum 3 of the new vocabulary words - Learners are asked to comment on their friends' comments making corrections and/or suggestions
