Description

In this lesson the students will learn about simple past. They will be taught some new words. Later they will be given a text. Having read the text they will answer some questions about it. We will finish the lesson with some true false questions.

Procedure

Introduce Vocabulary in Context of Holiday (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Here the teacher will introduce some new words they might face in the reading. She or he might use synonyms and antonyms to describe them. The teacher will also elicit the meanings from the students and later will write them on the board, asking the students to make some sentences. Then in the end the students will repeat the words individually and in groups.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Having thought the new vocab, the teacher will ask the students to have a look at the text, In other words they will skim the text to find answers for the questions regarding the text in part 1. The teacher will ask them to read it individually to find the answers.

Finding Answers Through Skimming (8-10 minutes) • Reading for Gist

The students will read the text individually, reading for gist, to find answers for questions. Later the teacher will ask them to work in groups to check their answers. and from each group one will read the answer to the rest of the class.

Productive Task, Reading for Details (6-9 minutes) • To Provide an Opportunity to Practice Target Productive Skills

Here the teacher will ask the students to read the text again, but this time for details and specific information. the teacher will ask the students to find out which sentence is true and which one false, in other words they will scan the text. again this will be done first individually. later the teacher will ask them to work in groups to check their answers.

Feedback and Error Correction (7-9 minutes) • To Provide Feedback on Students' Production and Use of Language

Here the teacher will control students' answers and feed backs regarding the text. They might make mistakes with simple past verbs or so, and the teacher will if there is the need correct them. This correction can be through change of intonation, asking questions, giving wrong structures and so on.
