In this lesson students undertake the task of designing a luxury holiday home through a practice of the related functional language.


Abc HO 1

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with an opportunity to practice fluency speaking in a discussion based on a task

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide Ss with funtioanal language and further TL practice to cover the task more effectively


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To introduce some initial vocab,find out what Ss know & arouse interest in the topic

The teacher looks sad,elicits the reasons and sets the context,

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide and highlight useful words and phrases and prepare Ss for the task

Give HO1 to the Ss, in pairs and answer the questions.W/c F/B

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify and practice the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Introduce the task (design a luxury holiday home). Elicit relevant F/L .Model on the board. CCQs follow. Give Ss HO2.

Sub Task - Preparation (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for students to plan their task more effectively

In pairs, Ss discuss what they should think of if they want to design a luxury holiday home.For F/B,Ss write their ideas on the board.

Task (15-20 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to use the fuctional language thorough a freer discussion practice

In groups of 3* - if not possible pairs (depending on the number of the Ss)- Ss perform the task.W/C F/B . As each group talks about their designs,others' task is to listen and decide on the advantages and disadvantages of each plan. ICQs follow. F/B

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Make note of the Ss' errors while they are reporting. If necessary, write some errors on the w/b and have ss discuss and correct them. Drill if needed. Try to keep error correction as S-centered as possible.
