TP2 of BERNA
Main aim of this class it to enable students to develop their reading skills for gist and detailed understanding in the context of reading a short story about a head teacher, Babur Ali.
To enable students to develop their speaking skils by exchanging ideas in a freer practice related to the same reading text.
Procedure (38-45 minutes)
-Teacher shows the pictures and students try to elicit the job of the boy in the picture. -Students make predictions and teacher asks few question and students speak more. -Students try to figure out the phrase "head teacher".
-Students make a lexis matching exercise. -They pair check the answers. -Teacher gives/shows the answers.
-Students look at the questions (p.18 ex.1) about Babur Ali and underline those they think are true. -Students compare/discuss in pairs. -Students scan read the text and check their answers. -T shows the answers and discuss few minutes at WCFB.
-Students read the text this time in detail. -Students do the sentence completion exercise -Students pair check -Teacher shows the answers -WCFB -Teacher writes 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the board and elicits the expressions of 5 o'clock and 4 o'clock and teacher asks the students by nominating them like: What time do you go to school Tarık? What time do you get up Çağatay? Also students ask each other.
-Students work in pairs and prepare questions based on prompts. -After they work in 2 groups A and B (A:Journalist, B:one of the students of Babur Ali) and continue in close pairs for the interview. -Teacher encourages the group B to use additional information from the text in their answers and group A to show reaction and sound interested. -Teacher monitors, corrects and helps if needed (especially in preparing sentences). -WCFB and delayed error correction is realized at the end.
