Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of past simple tense in the context of previous holidays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about different people and their holiday experience
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a sharing information about last holiday, things Ss did and places they went to


Warm-up (3-5 minutes) • to set the context

Show photos from my past trip to London Elicit language from SS, elicit info about my trip from SS some prompt with dates are given on the board

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • to provide practice through listening for gist

p13 Ex 3a- listen and answer the question Peer- checking in pairs ex 3c - listening for gist peer- checking with a person on the right

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • to encourage SS to focus on TL by listening for details

p13 Ex 3 B listening for detail information peer-checking with the person on the left

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • to provide MFP of TL past simple tense

Drawing spider gram on the board eliciting information from SS step by step Prompts to fill in are given Students work in 3 groups according to numbers the get each group tries to produce information about usage or form or time expressions Then each group sticks their info to the board Whole class discussion upon what SS have done

Controlled pracitse (3-5 minutes) • to check Ss's understanding of FORM

Fill in the gaps task p129 ex A Firstly SS think on their own than they compare answers in pairs Right answers are on the board after activity

Semi-contolled pratice (4-6 minutes) • to provide SS with the opportunity to use TL asking questions

p129 Ex B Ss complete questions individually and then check in pairs (SS get symbols like stars or hears or just squares to be divided in pairs) Drilling questions afterwards

Additional Activity (4-6 minutes) • To provide SS with an opportunity to share thier personal ideas about their holidays

Half of students make a small circle half make big one around the small circle they stay face to face 'Big circle' SS are given questions and they ask one question to an opposite person and then they move and continue by asking second question ( clock turning) İF time left SS can change roles
