Description

In this lesson , students will be introduced to clauses of contrast and purpose in the context of advertising. The context is going to be set through a picture at the beginning by having students elicit some ideas and then listen to track in order to prepare for the grammar part that will be clarified through a guided discovery handout.

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the context of the listening

-T greets Ss -T projects a picture of an advertisment that was withdrawn because it's misleading in order to creat interest of the topic. -T will have a small discussion with Ss

Listening task (3-6 minutes) • To listen for specefic information in order to contextualize the target language

-T will distribute Ho and gives instructions You will listen to a track, please tick the correct information.Work in pairs (ICQ) are you going to circle? are you going to work alone? -T then plays listening track and monitors -When Ss finish T distribute the answer key and ask Ss to check

highlighting and clarifying the traget language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify target language in terms of meaning,pronunciation and form through guided discovery

-T distributes first part of guided discovery HO folded to clarify meaning and gives instructions: Look at the sentence and answer the question in pairs. Time limit is 4 minutes (ICQS) are you going to work alone? are you going to unfold the HO -T monitors while Ss are doing the exercise -When Ss are done, T asks them to check with their other friends -T gives hints to the answers if ss find them difficult -T then asks Ss to unfold the HO and Circle the right answers in pairs with your neighbor , circle the correct answer. Time limit is 2mn -When Ss finish , T asks them to check in pairs and again check answers altogether if ss are having difficulties. -T then projects the model sentences in order to drill pronunciation. - T asks everybody to pronounce the words, once individually and then all together. T will also try back chaining for one sentence. -T highlights the words or sentences that ss are finding difficulties with and drill pronunciation. -T then distributes the other part of guided discovery HO and ask Ss to work in pairs Complete the pattern with the missing word. (ICQs) are you going to do it alone? are you going add anything or the words given? -T monitors while Ss wrok -When done , T asks ss to check in pairs -If the form is not really clear T will give them hint in order for Ss to discover it alone.

Controlled practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide practice by using the target language

-T distributes HO and Ss to work in pairs Rewrite this sentence by following the example.Time limit is set for 3 minutes -T monitors and ready to help when needed -When students finish T asks them to check together. -T projects answer key and asks students to check their answers

Semi controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To further practice the target language

-T distributes another HO and challenges students Try to complete as many sentences as you can in two minutes. Work in pairs (ICQS) are you working alone or with a partner? how much time do you have? -T monitors and cheers Ss -When time's up , T asks Ss to checks together . -T then projects some possible answers and ask ss to check and see whether answers match

Free practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide a free speaking practice focussed on using target language accurately

-T groups ss by having them pick coloured papers. -After making 4 groups , T gives instruction Group 1 and 2 and 3 will be a company and will invent a product. Ss will make ideas and will try to convince the judges which are group 4 which is consisted of 3 students. There is one condition to play the game: Ss must use the target language and speak English -T monitors and doesn't interfere
