Description

In this lesson, students will learn about question tags through guided discovery. After that, students will practise the grammar of question tags through some controlled and freer practices.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-In (4-5 minutes) • To create an interest on topic

-T starts with telling a joke to ss: "A child asked his mother, "How were we born? We were brought by storks, weren't we?" So his mother said, "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on." The child then went to his father, asked him the same question and he told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his mother and said, "You lied to me!" His mother replied, "No, It's your dad's side of the family, isn't it?" -Then t ask ss "why do children as strange questions?"

Pre Task (5-6 minutes) • To present ss the structure of question tags

-Ss complete the questions in 6a . -Ss compare their answers in pairs. -T plays the audio from ex. 5A on p.60. -SS listen and check again. -T elicit answers and delivers the answer key.

Guided Discovery (8-10 minutes) • To provide ss the clarification of the structure of question tags

-T delivers the guided the guided discovery HO. -Ss read the the rules of formulating question tags and underline the correct alternatives. -Ss check their answers in pairs. -T elicit answers and give the answer key -T drills the examples sentences with intonations -Ss unfolds the paper and write the examples on the table. - T gives the example key as a FB.

Controlled Practice (15-16 minutes) • To practise the structure of question tags

-T delivers HO for ex.1 on p.137 -Ss complete the ex.1 and check their answers in pairs. -T gives the answer key. -T delivers HO for ex.2 on p.137 -Ss complete the ex.2 and check their anwers in pairs. -T gives the answer key -T delivers HO for ex. 7 on p.60 -Ss complete the ex. 7 and check their answers in pairs. -T gives the answer key

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To practise the structure of question tags through speaking

-Ss work in pairs. Each pair is given an auxiliary (do, is, will, has) and have to write two positive and two negative questions to ask someone else in the class using question tags and given auxiliary verb. -T monitors and provides FB. -Ss change pairs and and ask their questions each other. -T monitors and provide FB. -Ssin pairs, imagine that they are friends who meet years after and ask questions each other. using question tags. -T monitors and provides FB.
