Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in introducing conversations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of "to be"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

with the help of the students I review "to be" grammar quickly.

Productive task 1 (17-20 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I divide students in pairs. I give each pair a worksheet. I play a small part of a short video which is related to the usage of "to be" and introducing yourself in English. I explain the activity and the things that they should do. I ask some ICQ questions to make sure they understand what I asked them to do. Then we watch the movie completely. After watching the movie Student work in pair and do the activity together.

Productive Task 2 (8-11 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I change the pairs. I ask students to introduce themselves. They have to talk about their names, the cities and countries where they are from, nationality, age, occupation and things like this.Obviously they have to give real info because it is a real life practical activity.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

while students are busy with doing the tasks during the class. I take notes of their errors or mistakes and then give them some feedback and some tips at the end of the class.
