  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of working life and workplace.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prior to listening I will clarify some vocabulary related to the listening text. The lexis at this point will be 'fashion designs, a library, costumes and theater.' My aim is to be enable the Ss to elicit the meaning from the visuals and CCQ I ask. Firstly, I will show the Ss a picture of a famous Turkish designer and ask them who he is and what he does. I aim to elicit the verb 'to design' from the Ss. After drawing the lexis from the Ss, I will try to elicit costumes asking the question 'What does he design?'. I will show a picture of a library and tell them I am a student. I am studying for an exam. I study in a quiet place. There are a lot of books. Where do I study? After drawing the lexis from the Ss, I will show them a picture of a theater and tell them I like plays very much. I want to watch a play and ask them where I go to watch plays. This eliciting practice will be followed by drilling practice.

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will tell the Ss to read the questions on exercise 2 and give them brief information about the conversation of Dimitri and Liam which they are going to listen. They may not be familiar with the expression know each other well in the first question. I will clarify the expression by providing some sample sentences and asking them whether they know their classmate sitting next to him/her well.

While Listening and Post-Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with specific information listening tasks

The Students will listen to the text for specific information which is required in the exercise. Following Listening#1, I will ask the Ss to work in groups to discuss their answers for 1 minute and get each groups's answers. Before listening to the text the second time, I will ask the Ss to have a look at the fill in the blanks in exercise 3. The students need to know the meanings of 'business administration' and 'dissertation' before re-listening to the text and trying to find the answers in the activity. I will try to elicit the lexis with visuals and CCQ. After listening to the text for the second time, I will get the Ss work in pairs and discuss their answers for 1 minute. I will give them the answers in envelopes and ask the groups if they got anything wrong.

Filling the Blanks Vocabulary Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide the SS some vocabulary practice regarding the listening text

I will ask the students to work in pairs and do the exercise which involves some collocations. I will give them 2 minutes to do so.

Speaking Practice about the students' jobs or course of study (5-10 minutes) • To improve the students' speaking skills in the context of jobs and courses

I will ask the students work in pairs and give them names of three fruits: Bananas, apples and oranges. Bananas, apples and oranges come together to have conversations about what they do, where they work or study, what kind of things they do on a usual day and whether they enjoy it or not and what they are working on now and whether they are enjoying it. I will give them 5 minutes to discuss.

While Listening #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks and inference making skill

I will brainstorm the Ss about workplaces by asking them to think about jobs and relevant work places such as doctor-hospital, teacher-school, secretary-office, fitness trainer-gym, etc. Following the brainstorm activity, I will tell the Ss that they will listen to an audio about workplaces and make inference to answer the related question in the exercise.

While Listening and Post-Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students listening for specific information

I will use gestures, drawings and drawings and some CCQ to elicit the meaning of the lexis in the exercise related to the listening practice. I will explain the task shortly and re-play the audio for further exercise. I will ask them to discuss the answers in groups and when they are finished, check for the answers on the wall.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to expand on what they've learned through a speaking activity

I will ask the students to work in groups and discuss the questions in section 3 about their workplace. I will walk around the class and monitor the Ss while they are having conversations with each other.
