Materials

Abc white board, colored markers, self made task

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the past continuous tense in the context of the classroom

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of a guiding verbs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will stand up, then I'll walk towards the window asking the students to come with me to see the view then I'll describe what I see for example (this boy is walking, this bird is flying, this man is fishing....etc) then I'll back to my seat asking them to back to their seats too.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation

I will ask one of the students to come and sit behind me, then I will say stand up while in the same time standing up myself, indicating with a gesture that the student should do the same. then I say walk then I walk across the room, also indicating to the student to do the same. then I will repeat this process with different instructions(stop, turn around, sit down). then I repeat it again but with describing what I'm doing and ask them to repeat after me. Finally I ask the students to back to their seats.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will ask one of the student to stand up and to do the process of the previous stage but alone, I will just give instructions. I ask her/him to stand up then I ask her/him to walk then to stop then to turn around ...etc. But while she/he is walking I will ask her to describe what she/he is doing right now saying what are you doing right now to say:"I am walking", then I write the sentence on the board with highlighting verb to be (am) and the (ing) using a different marker. after this, I will ask another student to describe what she/he is doing now to say:"She is walking", then I write the sentence. then I ask two students to repeat the same process to learn them how to use we and they, that is when I ask them to describe what they are doing following this by asking the rest of the students about what the two students are doing. finally, I write the last two sentences.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask a CCQs like is she walking right now or in the past or in the future?, to make sure that they understand the meaning. After this I will try to elicit the form from the students through indicating to the sentences that is already written on the board in the present continuous, then I write it on the board.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them an activity asking them to choose the right answer, and while they are solving it I'll be monitoring them. after they finish the activity I give them a feedback

Free Practice (1-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will show them videos then I will ask them to describe what is happening in it to make sure that they understood the lesson.
