Description

In this lesson, Ss will be introduced into question words and the verb to be. The lesson starts with a lead-in followed by highlighting the language point then controlled, semi-controlled and freer practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes " what, where and how" on the IWB and asks Ss what do they mean? T elicits that we use them to ask questions. T asks Ss to come up with Questions using the above WH- Words.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T directs Ss to Ss book page 14 grammar task 1 Ss look at the website on page 13 and complete the task. T uses ICQs then monitor. Ss check their answers in pairs. Feedback on the IWB

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss look at the rule below the gap fill activity, Ss circle the right options in pairs.

Clarification (8-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T clarifies the meaning of " how, who, where, what, and why. T elicits that we use them at the beginning of the questions. T finishes with a drilling activity.

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss complete task 2 individually. Check-in pairs. WCFD

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss Work in pairs, they take turns to ask and answer the question in Ex 1 and 2. T monitors, help with vocab if needed and notes ss errors before WCFD

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T encourages Ss to ask each other questions about their personal information and in the context of countries and nationalities.
