Description

In this lesson, students will focus on reading and speaking about holidays. Also, they are expected to use 'Simple Past Tense' for speaking activity at the end.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about past events in the context of holidays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in PWs and w/c in the context of holidays

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teachers starts talking about holidays and places to visit in cities. Task 1 is given. Ss are expected to speak about it as pairs. FB is given as w/c.

Pre-Reading (9-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss are given the text. They are informed that they should read it in detail. They are given tasks 2, 3 and 4. They scan the text and finish the tasks as PWs. FB is given. They are expected to speak some about these tasks.

While-Reading/ (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss are give task 5. As PWs, they are expected to finish the task. This time, speaking is expected as FB is given as w/c. Some sentences may be written on the w/b. Ss are asked to show the parts in the text for their answers. Some CCQs are asked.

While-Reading/ (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ss are given task 6. Again as pairs, they are expected to finish the task. When FB is given, they are asked to explain the reasons for their choices.

Post-Reading/Speaking (7-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

If there is still time and ss are able to understand the sentences about 'Simple Past Tense', they are given task 7. As PWs, they are expected to answer the questions in the task. FB si given as w/c. Some sentences may be written on the w/b.
