Description

In this lesson the Ss will learn about how to speak and write about the simple present and continuous tenses.i will ask them about their routine as a lead-in then ask them ''what are you doing now ?'' I will elicit their answers in order to move to the exposure step. I will give them a short article about the two tenses and they will underline the verbs so, they notice the usage of each tense. I will elicit the usage from them and explain it more.I will ask them to give me some sentences from the article to use them as while clarifying then drilling. I 'll give them a controlled-task then a semi-controlled task. They 'll go on with a freer task. At the end I'll give the feedback and write down mistakes then solve them without mentioning who did it.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the simple present and continuous in the context of a vacation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing and speaking practice about the routine and actions happening now.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage after greetings, I will ask Ss about their routine and get them involved in the class. I will start with taking about myself and encourage them to speak about themselves. Then ask them what they are doing now. I will elicit the answers from then in order to move to the next step.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I 'll give Ss a hand-out article with 2 paragraphs and ask them to read and notice the tenses which each paragraph written in.(3min) Elicit the usage of each tense from them and help them when needed.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will highlight the usage of each tense by telling them to underline the verbs and tell me the differences between the verbs in each paragraph. I will get them involved in a debate about what they do everyday and now.Then elicit some examples.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage I will tell Ss to give me some examples with (I,he and we) in the continuous-present paragraph and to give me examples with (I,he) and write then down on the board then clarify each sentence then give them the rules. at the end of this stage I will give the drilling of each sentence.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage I will give the Ss the EX #1and explain how to answer it. and answer the first Q with them as example, then use the CCQ. I will give them 10 mins. while they working on this task I will be demonstrating and help when needed. As they finish I will tell them to check their answers in pairs. then give then the Feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this stage I will give the Ss the EX #2 and explain how to answer it. and answer the first Q with them as example, then use the CCQ. I will give them 10 mins. while they working on this task I will be demonstrating and help when needed. As they finish I will tell them to check their answers in pairs. then give then the Feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

n this stage I will give them a freer exercise. I will tell them t imagine the member of their families and write about their routine and what they are doing now. I will ask each student about his/her partner. then have a freer conversation about the target language.

Delayed Feedback (5-6 minutes) • to solve any mistake that happened in the class.

In this stage i will write down all the mistakes I noticed and clarify them.
