Materials

Abc Papers of Explanations about Grammar Points

Main Aims

  • To provide the students grammar points( used to and would)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students istening practice using a text about '6 Minute Grammar Used to and be/get used to' in an event in the distant past and repeated actions, not states.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in/icebreaker (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First, I am going to refer to the previously worked subjects and then use/show a football ball. Later, I am going to say 'I used to play football, but now I don't'. After that, I am going to give them 1 minute to think about a habitual activity that they used to do, but now they don't.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Handing out the worksheet . Give them some time to have a scan the worksheets and give them 1 minute to have a look at the text in the coursebook and I am going to get them to underline four verbs with used to and would( 'd)

The text from the BBC Learning English. (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I am going to introduce the text and give them some time to think about what the passage deals with and then do a pairwork about what they get from it and then play the 6-minute grammar.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this section, I am going to get them to do Practice 2 on page 21 and paraphrase them.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

If I don't spend the bulk of my time on activities, I will give them some time to ask me questions about my past habits/events.
