Shopping for a Gift

Description

Besides giving the lexical set of shopping, this lesson will be a review of demonstratives and stative verbs.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of shopping expressions in the context of shopping for a gift

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts with asking birthdays and anniverseries of the Ss. Then T talks about her brother's birthday and a gift she has been searching for. Setting the contect of gift shopping T points out the vocabulary part of the Module 1.2.

Test #1 (5-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T makes 2 groups and gives Ss 3 mins. to come up with a plan for a gift for an old couple's 50th anniversary gift. T writes the demonstratives Ss uses. Than T gives HO1 to test Ss prior knowledge on demonstratives.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T provide clarification on demonstratives using the language focus part of module 1.2 and proceeds with the exercies to create a controlled practice. T also explains about the stative verbs and Ss answers the exercise on stative verbs on language focus part.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T gives HO2 and gives Ss 3 mins to fill in the blanks to check Ss current capibility of the TL. T takes answer from the class.

Free practice (20-25 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives Ss crayons and papers and put Ss in pairs to create an event and prapare invitations and gift cards for the old couple's 50th anniversary that was mentioned at the begining. T gives 10 mins for these preparations and then ask Ss to promote their organisation. In the end T makes a pole to choose the most succesful organisation.
