Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about enjoying work in the context of different kinds of work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of enjoying work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T asks the students about their dream work or job. - T asks students to discuss in pairs about the work or job they would like to do.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T teaches difficult words in reading text like: operate - foundation - leadership - transplant - treatment - retire - retirement - surgeon - surgery -customer - interviewer - interviewee - improve - charitable - qualify

While-Reading#1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Sts read the text for specific information. - Students read and answer questions on the reading passage. - Students discuss their answers in pairs. - Students get their feedback.

While-Reading. #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-. Sts are asked to read again the passage to answer detailed questions. - Sts check in pairs their answers. - Sts get their feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Sts are asked to work in groups and have conversations and talk about the work they would to do in the future saying how they would achieve that and why did they choose the sort of job.
