In this lesson the students will practise the vocabulary of personal qualities that are useful for when applying for a job.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of personal qualifications in the context of jobs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about personal qualifications in the context of jobs .
  • To provide semi conntrolled practice where the students can personalise the qualities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows pictures of some people and ask about their jobs and what personal qualities they have. Then asks to decide what personal qualities a person needs to be successful at work.

Exposure (5-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher announce that today they are going to know what personal qualities are useful when applying for a job. T sets ex.1a p. 44 (Student's Book) The task is to read the paragraphs and decide which jobs these people are talking about. İndividually,peer check, WC check

Highlighting (5-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T says that there are 9 personal charasteristics in the texts and ask to underline them. Checks, then sets ex 1 b p 44 to fill in the gaps with these words in pairs. Teacher monitors and helps with aome difficulties. Feedback: WC

Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: T will ask CQQs to clarify the meaning. Form: T elicits from the ss functions of the words in the sentence (noun, adj., etc) to highlight the place of each word in the sentence. Pronunciation: Drilling takes places.

Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T sets ex 1A p 23 ( Work Book) to read and fill in the gaps individually. Feedback: peercheck, WC. Tests the role play task, students work in pairs, one of them is a HR manger, anther is a canditate who has to decide what kind of job is suitable for him/her. If there is enough time they can switch the roles with another pair.

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T sets the game ''find someone who'', the students should find their peers' personal characteristics. THen they take their turn to tell the whole class about their peers' personal qualiites.

Feedback (3-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' use of language
